Finding Selah

a place to pause and reflect before moving on to the next verse

We all need space for reflection, but in our current always moving, always changing world, there is always an excuse or a distraction or Something More Important. I am here to remind you (and myself!) that there is an abundance in the Universe, that the Most Benevolent Spirit exists to fill the Space In Between.

The Space In Between is where the magic happens, where we find grace and creativity and love.

I invite you to share in my musings and join in the search for your own Selah, your own place to pause.

I am an artist and an activist, with a slight tendency toward rabble-rousing, but ultimately, I seek to find the points of connection in life. I am particularly interested in studying the intersection of the Arts, Theology and Healing, as well as the ways in which our personal quest for wholeness and healing can contribute to the re-membering of the world. Embodiment, sustainable living, eco-feminism, Jungian archetypes, mysticism and all kinds of poetry are just a few of the things that whet my considerable appetite for new information and reflection. I am committed to the dynamic and life-changing potential of Unitarian Universalism, and feel truly blessed to be able to serve in a professional capacity.

My current home base is Arlington, Virginia, although I've lived in many more places (Boston, Santa Fe, New York City, Cape Cod... the list goes on.)

I have been blogging for a few years now, and have begun to understand the value of such a public forum, especially as a minister, as an artist, and as a person who believes in justice-making and the power of love in the world.

A bit of information on the title of this website: In the Psalms, we see the word Selah at various points in the text. Pronunciation of Selah seems to vary quite a bit. The nice little man who pronounces things in the Yahoo dictionary seemed to favor SEE-luh. The literal Hebrew definition is: suspension (of music), i.e. a pause.

Selah essentially means a lyrical pause that allows for an instrumental interlude. It is a time to meditate and reflect on the lyrics of the Psalmist during the song. This gives the hearers of the Psalm an opportunity to digest what has just been said before the lyricist continues.
